Research and Comparison of Time-frequency Techniques for Nonstationary Signals
نویسندگان
چکیده
Most of signals in engineering are nonstationary and time-varying. The Fourier transform as a traditional approach can only provide the feature information in frequency domain. The time-frequency techniques may give a comprehensive description of signals in time-frequency planes. Based on some typical nonstationary signals, five time-frequency analysis methods, i.e., the short-time Fourier transform (STFT), wavelet transform (WT), Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD), pseudo-WVD (PWVD) and the HilbertHuang transform (HHT), were performed and compared in this paper. The characteristics of each method were obtained and discussed. Compared with the other methods, the HHT with a high time-frequency resolution can clearly describe the rules of the frequency compositions changing with time, is a good approach for feature extraction in nonstationary signal processing.

متن کاملNonstationary Signal Enhancement Using The Wavelet Transform
Conventional signal processing typically involves frequency selective techniques which are highly inadequate for nonstationary signals. In this paper, we present an approach to perform time-frequency selective processing using the Wavelet Transform. The approach is motivated by the excellent localization, in both time and frequency, aaorded by the wavelet basis functions. Suitably chosen wavele...
متن کاملNonstationary Signal Classification Using Support Vector Machines
In this paper, we demonstrate the use of support vector (SV) techniques, for the binary classification of nonstationary sinusoidal signals with quadratic phase. We briefly describe the theory underpinning SV classification, and introduce the Cohen’s group time-frequency representation, which is used to process the non-stationary signals so as to define the classifier input space. We show that t...

Purpose: The aim of this study was to characterize prolonged standing and its effect on postural control in elderly individuals in comparison to adults.Materials and Methods: The elderly individuals’ behavior during standing and how demanding such a task is for them, is still unknown. We recorded the center of pressure (COP) position of 12 elder and 15 young participants while they were standin...
متن کاملDiscrete Wavelet Transfom for Nonstationary Signal Processing
In engineering, digital signal processing techniques need to be carefully selected according to the characteristics of the signals of interest. The frequency-based and time-frequency techniques have been frequently mentioned in some literature (Cohen, 1995). The frequencybased techniques (FBTs) have been widely used for stationary signal analysis. For nonstationary signals, the time-frequency t...
